There’s Music in the Air!

  • David Ginisi

Sousa marches. Sixties rock. Lively Polkas. Country ballads…What’s your pleasure?

As New England temperatures rise, music begins to float on the air, as communities and local organizations take to bandstands and stages, lifting spirits across the region. Summer concerts are simply a part of the seasonal cycle, and have been for as long as anyone can remember — consider the Leominster Colonial Band, which has been entertaining audiences for more than a century!

Nearly any day of the week, you can find performers delighting young and old alike in beautiful country settings. On Sunday afternoons, Fitchburg’s picturesque Coggshall Park turns into an outdoor concert hall, with audiences gathered on the shores of Mirror Lake. Bandstands on town commons from Templeton to Townsend come alive with music throughout the week. A downtown Winchendon church provides a great acoustic setting for a professional orchestra, and community center in Ashburnham hosts musicians from around the globe in a series of concerts featuring historic pianos.

And you don’t have to settle in for a concert! You can enjoy live music at farmers’ markets in Westminster and other communities, and at car shows, kite festivals and art exhibitions, too!  §
