Take the Ski Train

  • David Ginisi

You love to ski. You live in the city. No car? No problem! Take the Ski Train to Wachusett Mountain Ski Area! It’s easy. It’s fun. And it’s close to home.

Grab your skis and hop on the weekend train at North Station and head to Wachusett Station, where a shuttle will whisk you off for a day of mountainside fun! The train includes a designated “Ski Car” to for easy storage of your ski and snowboard equipment. Love night skiing? There’s a Wednesday train, too, leaving Boston around 3 pm and departing from Wachusett about 10:30 pm. (Check the MBTA train schedule for 2019-20 details.)

Located in the heart of Massachusetts, Wachusett is one of the most accessible ski areas in New England — and when you ride the train, you don’t even have to think about parking, or being tired at the end of a busy day.

Yes, It’s Snowing!

If you live in the city, forget looking out the window to see if it’s a good day for skiing. A stream of snowless days in Boston doesn’t keep Wachusett, with 27 trails and a summit elevation of 2,006 feet, from providing a great experience. In 2016, the ski area committed more than $2 million to a major snowmaking project, doubling its pumping capacity to 8,000 gallons per minute and allowing its snowmaking crews to cover two trails overnight with a foot of snow. With a little luck and some cooperation from Mother Nature’s thermometer, the ski season can start as early as mid-November!

Winter is a great time enjoy the great outdoors — and the Ski Train is a great way to get to the slopes!
