Frightful Fun

  • Visit North Central

Do you love the scary season … the days, or weeks, around Halloween, filled with ghosts, and goblins and things that go bump in the night?

Then you’ll just love Johnny Appleseed Country! From the mild to the (slightly) wild, halloween is a frightfully fun time here.  Consider this sampling: Davis’ MegaMaze in Sterling invites you try a “Fright Night” tour in late October. The Athol Lions Club hosts spooky hayrides around Silver Lake, with skits at various spots along the way. And the doors at Halloween Costume World in Fitchburg creak open to bone-chilling tours for the not-faint-of-heart.

For the younger set, or those who take a more light-hearted view of the season, swing by Sholan Farms or Templeton Common to build a scarecrow — or just see the scary work of other hands —during their Scarecrow Contest weekends. You’ll find more about these events in the Calendar section of this Guide.
